Application Advisory Services
College
Each college application needs to be genuine and organic. When Matt Butler approaches an application, he works with the family to highlight the applicant’s compelling qualities. Matt Butler not only acts in an advisory capacity but also in a creative capacity, something many other counselors would not be willing to do. He offers students the chance to collaborate on their college essays because channeling the “personal voice” required for the essay is unusual to students accustomed to an expository writing format and because he has a gift for working with students to convey formative experiences without making the students feel like they are bragging or embellishing the truth. Matt is also a mediator who can act as a helpful third party to families that want a trusted viewpoint about different approaches to designing a college application.
Aside from constructing the application, Matt prepares students for alumni and on-campus interviews by holding a Mock Interview in the Fall of a student’s Senior Year to help distinguish students in this forum. Everything from resume analysis to projecting vocally go into preparing students for the college interview.

College Transfers
College Transfer Applications are begun in the summer before a student enters the fall of freshman year. Significance is placed on the schools which the student wishes to attend and the strides that will need to be taken to meet the criteria of admission to those schools. These applications are generally more school-specific and are therefore approached in a more strategic manner than college applications submitted in senior year of high school. Matt will meet with the student to determine a list of schools to apply for a transfer and will help construct an application that demonstrates a student’s compatibility with those schools.
Private Secondary School & Boarding School
Matt has a gift for working with young students on their applications to secondary schools and boarding schools. He not only assists students with finding the right “fit” and in drafting their personal statements but he also advises parents on their written portions of the applications, as well. Making sure that the application is congruent without being redundant in showcasing a student’s strengths and talents is an important skill and one which Matt has honed through his work as an application advisor for students applying to an array of high schools.
